Case Studies

I decided to look into this magazine as I thought it was well photographed and fit with the first front cover I am planning to do. The use of colour using clothing and text makes the magazine look cohesive. The use of sunglasses also inspired me as an easy way to create connection throughout the front cover, yet the transparency means the model maintains eye contact.

Mood Board

The first magazine is going to be a pop singer that is female. I chose to look at younger female pop artists in this mood board as that will be most similar to my model. I found all the musicians tend to use specific colour schemes that they use throughout their shows and on magazine front covers, to link to their album cover. One way I thought would be replicable was using eyeshadow, as seen in the Dove Cameron Vogue magazine. I thought this was an interesting way to make the front cover look cohesive and would be achievable when taking my own shots.

The second front cover is going to be inspired by R&B music genre. I looked into male models to see how they are photographed as I am planning to use a male model for my own front cover. I found most of the magazines covered the males faces somewhat, yet continued to keep eye contact. I think I will experiment with this when taking my own photographs. I also liked the way some of the pictures were taken with instruments in the background, which would reinforce the idea the magazine is about music.
